Lib Dems at rock bottom - and it could get worse

It was with some delight that I read yesterday that the Liberal Democrats support has fallen to 12% and Nick Clegg's rating is now +8 from a high of +72.

Clearly voters have seen what a set of self seeking set of politicians these Liberals are. They - much like their friends in the Council Chamber the Community Action Party - have always told people exactly what they want them to hear to gain votes. They have no policies as such. And now they have been found out because, unlike in the past when they had no power, they have to be accountable for their actions. In effect voters have made the judgement that Nick Clegg was not honest about his policies and has abandoned any principles the Party might have had. A good example of this is the rise in VAT to 20 % which Nick Clegg and his party labelled as a Tory tax bombshell but which now they support wholeheartedly.

I am looking forward to the next local elections when the Community Action Party will have to explain to local voters the reasons they support this Government and then justify the massive cuts that will be made and which will be so harmful to the residents of the Borough.

Hi Nigel
If you want a debate on national politics, well and good.
After all you represent a party that raised national insurance by 10% and proposed another rise of 9.09%. Yet still had an upper limit to contributions, thereby allowing the plutocrats to pay the same as those on the average wage (if only).
That hit the low paid by reducing the headline figure of income tax from 22% to 20%, but did away with the 10% band.
That brought a flight tax based on journey as opposed to cost of flight, hitting the working man who has a European budget holiday once a year by paying only a little less than someone flying first class.
At least when I go to a discount store for my trousers and pay less than £10.00 I will be paying considerably less VAT than someone shopping in Saville Row.
Is this the same party that year on year raised the fuel duty, hitting hard people like care workers who use their cars to do their job.
Please Nigel keep to local issues, something for which you have the respect of local people of all parties.
However as you got in on a minority vote could not your attack on the Lib/dems be a case of fear of PR

Unlike you Alan as crossbencher who is just a tory in disguise. I have been waiting to see for years what you have done for local politics only copy Nigels successes onto your manifesto. WHAT ABOUT THE THOUSANDS TODAY LOOSEING THEIR JOBS, THE SCHOOLS NOT BEING REPAIRED, THE NHS BEING SOLD OFF TO THE PRIVATE SECTOR,THE NORTH OF ENGLAND GETTING MORE CUTS THAN THE SOUTH, THE PROPOSED BENIFITS CUTS FOR THE NORTH MORE THAN THE SOUTH I COULD GO ON FOR AGES BUT THIS WOULD ONLY MAKE ME MORE OF A WINGER THAN YOU. Alan lets see you post your comments in 12 months and be brave enough to put your full name so the people of ashton can see what their local comunity action party is standing for. I will remain anonymous just to respect my politics but you should come clean.

Hi Anonymous,
To answer your questions or should I say statements?
“Unlike you Alan as crossbencher who is just a Tory in disguise.” and
“ Alan lets see you post your comments in 12 months and be brave enough to put your full name so the people o Ashton can see what their local Community Action party is standing for.”
You seem to make a few assumption, just that assumption. I am not a member and have nothing to do with The Community Action Party. They lost credibility when they became the play thing of a certain “oligarch”.
A Tory in disguise? I have voted five different ways locally in the forty four years I have been able to vote. I am a firm believer that in local politics one should vote for the best person. Nationally, I have always voted the same way. As a greater admirer of the nineteenth century Chartist Movement, I will use one of their five demands, namely, the secret ballot.
“WHAT ABOUT THE THOUSANDS TODAY LOSING THEIR JOBS” What about the millions who lost their jobs under thirteen years of Labour Misrule.
THE SCHOOLS NOT BEING REPAIRED. And “THE NHS BEING SOLD OFF TO THE PRIVATE SECTOR,” Methinks thou doest protest too much. You didn’t seem to mind Labour selling the school buildings to the private sector, in effect with their “Schools for the future programme”
“Alan lets see you post your comments in 12 months and be brave enough to put your full name” and “I will remain anonymous just to respect my politics but you should come clean” I would say that is the height of hypocrisy, you tell me who you are but I will hide behind the cloak of secrecy!!
Well my name is Alan James Edwards, I am 64 and work in the care sector dealing with vulnerable adults 24/7. The politicians I most admire are Iain Duncan Smith, Frank Fields and David Owen, so you cane see why I chose the, “nome de plume” Crossbencher.
Finally I have always respected Nigel Ash as a local politician, however I think it is a mistake for any local politician to casually comment on national politics as it tends to cloud local issues.
I Remain Your Obedient Servant
