Candidates and followers from different political parties were in Ashton Town Centre on Saturday. However people were apparently very confused as to who the different candidates were representing. I believe the following parties were there:
1.The local Independent candidates and helpers
2. The two Independent Parliamentary candidates and helpers
3. The CAP local candidates and helpers
4. The BNP
5. The group opposed to the BNP
People tell me that they were confused because the Independent and the CAP were wearing exactly the same colours. They could not understand why there were two Parliamentary candidates and why all these 'independent' groups are asking for their votes when they seem to be saying the same thing.
I just say that democracy is a wonderful thing and I am glad to see it alive and kicking in Ashton.

I was there on Saturday - did I see the People's Front of Judea as well?
No......you couldn't have - they were the Judean People's Front?
Nigel. I was there for six hours on Joanne`s team and I agree there was a great deal of confusion...Everybody was confused as to why YOU didn`t bother turning up at all....Some said it was because you were arrogant enough to think you didn`t need to fight for your seat...Others said you were too scared to face up to us all...especially the BNP bully boys....as it happened Ken Haslam was a perfect gentleman...even when I told him I wasn`t voting for him he still shook my hand and said `thanks for listening to me anyway` And CAP did not get confused with the Independent defectors because WE had the most prominent corner of all andthey even had to stand next to our stall because they were lonely and noone would talk to them. And by the way I have just finished leafletting every single house in Stubshie...It will be nice to have areal pin-up in our area for a change.....Ray Davies.....

As Oscar Wilde said - there is one thing worse than being talked about which is not being talked about.
For the record I have held two street stalls in the middle of Ashton on Saturday 17th April and yesterday. You will have noticed all the red ballons and bags during our Saturday event.
Which reminds me - where were CAP yesterday? Don't worry though - nobody remarked on their absence.
i didnt even leave my house and even i saw Nigel Ash on saturday, canvassing the streets in ashton, well done nigel. i didnt see any other candidates though..sure they are nice enough people anyhows but its labour for me, bring it home reds !!!
Nigel.Joanne and I were stood in front of Greensway between 2pm and 4 pm yesterday so you must have finished early.Ken Haslamwas across the road. We went there in response to the gutter level leaflet given out by the Independent Party about you and Paul and Joanne. They had already scarpered when I got there.lucky for them...If you or Joanne wins this it will have been a fair fight but if they win using those tactics then they might well regret it....Ray

Well said ex coucillor, well we will know tomorrow!!
Seriously though nationally if the Lib Dems hold the balance of power to form a coalition one of the conditions will be proportional representation, heaven help us, elections will be a yealy event.
Locally I find the idea of Bryn and Ashton with seperate wards, why can't we have one ward but being able to vote for two councillors to represent us.
I know there are plenty of historical and most likely legal reasons why this can not be but what are your opinionn councilor or will it be ex coucilor?
I will miss the count for the first time in many years as I am working, I expect a phone call as soon as the results for Bryn and Ashton are announced.
If my contact doesn't phone me my number is 07817676798
